There are a lot of types of people, there are cinephiles who love watching movies, there are bibliophiles who like to be buried in books. Then there is the third type, the most interesting one of them all, the so called 'Weebs' who love watching anime! If you read my previous anime review post, 'Brain food for an Otaku', you would know what anime is. If you haven't read it, go read it, quick! Then come back here and read this one! The anime I am reviewing today is a little different from the others, but no less amazing. Let's get to the content before I blurt out any spoilers!

The anime we will talk about today is called ‘Death Note’. Even though the name suggests negativity, the plot is interesting and has a good and practical moral at the end of the series. It does not promote any kind of violence, Let’s get to the plot of the story!

The Plot

A normal teenager, Light Yagami who tops highschool has an extreme view about the "Rotten World". He thinks that there is too much evil in the world, he looks at the news and all he sees is the crimes and the ruthless criminals caught everyday. He stumbles across a notebook. Little did he know that the notebook in his hand is no ordinary piece of paper. It holds the power of the so-called ‘Shinigamis’ [Gods/supernatural beings in Japanese culture who take the lives of humans] who are from another realm. The job of a Shinigami is to take the lives of human beings in order to increase their own. They do this by writing the person’s name in a notebook called ‘Death note’. The protagonist, Light Yagami, finds this notebook. He feels the power in his hands and realizes that his dream of eradicating evil from this world can finally come true. He befriends the Shinigami to whom the book belongs. He became known as ‘Kira’. He is always a step ahead of the police. Kira writes name after name of criminals to kill in the Death Note. There is one person who he can't be a step ahead of, he is the smartest detective there is. Known by the name ‘L’, he has only one goal, to catch Kira. It is a wild goose chase between Kira and L. The question is, who will outwit whom? Who will succeed? Will evil be eradicated from this world?

The Review

Just as the name suggests, there are no butterflies, rainbows and unicorns in the plot of Death Note. It may not be suitable for audiences under 14 years of age according to me. One needs a mature mind to understand this anime. That is why it is not advised for kids under 14. The plot of Death Note is dark and very gripping. The character, Light Yagami is portrayed appropriately according to the plot. Unlike other animes which are all about the action and epic fight scenes, Death Note is rather talkative and might seem a little slow to some audiences who like to watch animes with a lot of action like Jujutsu Kaisen [ Check out that post! ]. For the people who like cheerful and happy animes, this anime might not be their cup of tea. But I would surely recommend them to try it. The anime is very interesting and gripping. This anime does not make you feel all evil if that’s what y'all are thinking. Some people might have negative views about the philosophy of justice shown in the anime but we watch it for the fun, don’t we. The climax of the series is a good conclusion as you shall see. As all the Weebs out there would know, the intro in an anime is as important as the plot itself. This anime has 2 intros throughout the series. Both of them are very good and describe the feel of the plot well. The same goes with the background score. In conclusion, even if the series is a little slow and dark, it is still worth a watch.

That is all I have to say for the Anime, but I won’t let y’all leave without updating your Spotify playlist!

Today’s Melody

Today’s song recommendation is a song sung in a dialect of Hindi. It is called ‘Mat Kar Maya Ko Ahamkara’. It is a song beautifully sung by Neeraj Arya’s Kabir café. It is inspired from the sayings of the great saint Kabir. The song is easy to understand even though it is a different dialect. It talks about how we should not be proud of materialistic possessions as they can be destroyed at any second. It is a sweet melody and can give your day a good start!

I would like to end with a quote-

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift! That’s why it is called ‘present’.....

I hope you liked this post! Stay tuned for the next one!
